A few months ago, a few of us where riding our mountain bikes in a remote area up in the California Sierra mountain range, out on an adventure, trying to enjoy the last few days before everything got buried under snow. It was one of these cold, crisp, clear day that you remember forever.
While making our way down a tight, rocky, narrow single track trail, we ran into (literally!) a pair of park rangers riding electric motorcycles. Once we got over our surprise, we started to chat with the rangers (nice folks) who were on a pilot program to evaluate the use of electric vehicle for park use, specifically if these electric models could be use for remote trail inspection, maintenance and possibly out of the way quick rescue access.
After what turned out to be a rather long conversation, we let them go on their way, but from then on we had that worm make its way inside out brain: what kind of utilities could electric vehicles have in this type of enviroment.
The post ride drive back home was a long animated conversation and by the time we crossed the last bridge before arriving home we had a plan.
And as they say, the rest is history (or will be soon).
